About me and my pictures' connection to Girl With a Pearl Earring

I choose this picture because it shows how I like to dress professionally and how I am not afraid to show that I dress nicely and professionally. I also choose this picture because this picture was taken the night of Homecoming, and I had a great night that night hanging at with all my friends before, during, and after the dance. Also, I'm not looking directly at the camera during the picture, so it somewhat shows a sense of daydreaming or not paying attention.

This picture I took relates to Girl With a Pearl Earring because in the book Greit is not very open in her life about herself, especially now with herself in her new conditions with the family she is working for. One main feature she conceals mainly is her hair as she says, "He reached a hand toward my head. I moved away..." (Chevalier 122). On the other hand I am very open with myself, with my hair, my body, and a way this is shown is I am dressed professionally, which I like doing, when on the other hand, as I stated before, Greit does not.

Another way the picture of myself relates to the story is Greit, in her self-portrait, is not looking straight forward and that could be a sense  of her feeling that she is not as high a class of the people she is working for, and because of the she feels demoted so she doesn't want to look directly at the painter. One time she feels this way is when she first arrives to be the maid and she says, "I looked up at the house. It was certainly grander than ours..." (Chevalier 15). In my picture I am also not looking right straight ahead at the camera, (if you look very carefully you can tell my eyes are off to the side) this is because I had a moment where I wasn't paying attention or I was daydreaming, but I am not looking away for the same reason Greit is.
